Octopus

The octopus belongs to the order of Octopoda and is a cephalopod (bilaterally symmetrical). There are over 300 species of octopuses in the world's oceans.

An Octopus has two eyes and a central mouth between their many arms. An Octopus has eight very long arms that are typically covered in suction cups and used for tasting. They have no internal skeleton or protective exterior shell. Besides their bird like beaks, the body of an octopus is completely soft and vulnerable. They have three hearts and very short life spans. The average octopus lives between 6 months and five years unless they mate. The female octopus dies soon after laying her eggs.

Despite the fact that all octopuses are venomous creatures only one type of octopus venom is dangerous to human beings. The deadly blue ringed octopus is found in the Pacific Ocean. Octopuses are considered the smartest of the invertebrate creatures.
